I’m proud to share that two of my recent projects won two Gold PRISM Awards from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB). It was such an honor to have my work recognized by my colleagues in the design industry. Today, I welcome you to take a look inside these award-winning projects…  (All photos by Michael J. Best Living Area in a Private Residence: Bath

First up, a luxurious master bath and dressing room renovation:

Of all the rooms in a home, bathrooms are my all time favorite to design, and this one was no exception! I started by completely reconfiguring the space to maximize the size of the dressing and closet area. The dressing area has beautiful, custom cabinetry with inset antique mirror on the door and drawer fronts.

In the bathroom itself, the custom designed walnut millwork and cabinetry is highlighted with burled door fronts and is finished off with gorgeous polished nickel decorative hardware.

Detailed marble and tile steal the show in this design. Classic cararra marble is utilized throughout with an amazing mosaic as accent around the tub, over the makeup vanity and in the shower. Decorative marble mosaic details frame the marble floor of the space.

Last but certainly not least — that tub! A gorgeous free standing oval cast iron bath with a burnished exterior offers the ultimate end of day retreat. Overall, this is a space where my clients will be able to prepare for the day and unwind in full luxury!

Best Living Area in a Private Residence: Living/Dining Room

We turned the glamour way up in this waterfront penthouse with sweeping ocean views! First, the dramatic dining room:

I custom designed  the textured metal built in. It includes thick star-fire glass shelving; door, drawer fronts and custom door handles covered with a faux ostrich vinyl fabric, and integrated LED lighting to highlight art and beautiful accessories. I then brought in equally fabulous furnishings to match: a glass table with a unique metal faceted base, acrylic chairs upholstered in a fun animal skin motif fabric and a contemporary chandelier created with layers of pink fabric. 

It’s hard to compete with the floor to ceiling water views of this living room, but I worked with creamy colors and decadent textures to create sophisticated drama in this beautiful space. Pops of playful jewel toned throw pillows enhance the low slung sectional sofa. A menagerie of textures — velvet swivel chairs, silver and grey shag area rug and a high gloss cocktail table with a shiny, mirrored tray — add comfort and visual appeal to the space, while a more traditional oversized mirror balances the space. Finally, we opted for bold but simplistic artwork that allows the focus to stay on that incredible view. 

Though both award-winning designs are quite different stylistically, they capture what I love most about being a full-service interior designer. In both spaces, I worked closely with my clients to create spaces with elegant custom features, delicious layers of color and texture, and luxurious style.

October 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Leslie Fine Interiors, Inc.!

With an office that started out in the basement of my home and then eventually took up residence in a design studio on Newbury Street, I am overjoyed and grateful for my involvement in the New England interior design community.

Over the years, I have been privileged to work on so many wonderful residential interior design projects. I continue to be thrilled each time my work is recognized in both regional and national publications and through the achievement of many awards.

Most recently, I received two 2016 Gold Awards from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB) for Best Bathroom Remodel over $125,000 and for Best Living Area: Private Residence – Bath. I will soon be sharing photos of this amazing project.

What continues to inspire and motivate me is not only the design process itself but the relationships I’ve formed with clients and colleagues. So many of these wonderful people have enriched my life in a way that I could never have imagined.

I am excited to announce that I will be launching another division of Leslie Fine Interiors, Inc. – as a consultant to other interior designers who are either just starting out or for others who have been in business but want to take it to the next level. With my twenty years of experience in building a brand and a business, I am looking forward to sharing my expertise with others.

It’s always an exhilarating experience to take on a full kitchen remodeling project and watch it come to life. I’m pleased to unveil the before and after shots from one of my recent projects — a South End kitchen renovation which was also featured recently in The Boston Globe. The transformation between this kitchen’s initial layout and its final design was such a success that the new space is hardly recognizable from what it used to be!

Before the renovation, the kitchen of this Boston condo lacked flow, comfort and aesthetic appeal. The layout was cramped and choppy due to an adjacent pantry space and a narrow laundry room. Another challenge faced was finding a way to work around the areas that couldn’t be moved or altered because of the condo’s duct work and piping.

Kitchen BEFORE:

As you can see from these photos, the overall design lacked visual interest and appeal. Not surprisingly, when my clients purchased the property, the kitchen upgrade was a priority. What they desired was an open and elegant contemporary kitchen that was fully equipped with high-tech features, appliances and amenities.

Kitchen BEFORE:

We opened up the space and created a seamless flow by removing multiple walls and integrating the former pantry space and former laundry room into the new kitchen design. (The laundry room was relocated to another area of the condo.) These crucial steps significantly impacted the condo’s entire floor plan allowing for an open design that flows beautifully into the adjoining living and dining rooms. I integrated the cabinetry, appliances and millwork to achieve an attractive and functional design while accommodating the immovable ducts and pipes.

Kitchen AFTER:

The kitchen cabinetry by Poggenpohl features an organic, textured laminate finish. All new, upscale appliances were used to ensure top-notch functionality. Caesarstone countertops and backsplash add to the kitchen’s sleek appearance, while the organic riverstone accents by Ann Sacks are a gorgeous feature above the stove top and as a stripe in the backsplash around the room.

I also designed the kitchen’s rift oak custom millwork to create feature walls that add dynamic interest while coordinating with the look, feel and quality of the furniture in the home. With its dark stain and stainless steel reveals, the millwork contrasts beautifully with the light colored , organic cabinetry for a stunning effect. The materials and details work together to achieve a contemporary, striking and sophisticated look and even provides additional storage.

I’m thrilled to report that at the gala event held on October 30, 2013 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston, Leslie Fine Interiors, Inc. was the recipient of the coveted Gold PRISM Award from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston for BEST BATHROOM!

The clients desired a “spa-like” bathroom with an extra large shower with a two sided set up using two shower heads, two rain heads and multiple body sprays and a long bench for sitting on and relaxing. Furthermore, they wanted plenty of vanity storage and countertop space with two sinks and a separate makeup area.

To keep the bathroom light, bright and airy, I used large white tiles for the floor and bright white vanities and countertops. The spa-like green glass tiles were used halfway up the walls of the bathroom and on the shower walls. River stone was used on the shower floor (so many of my clients love the feel of this material under their feet). With chrome plumbing fixtures and sconces, the vanity area was topped off using a combination of mirrors and sandblasted glass.

I am thrilled to add this 2013 PRISM Award to many other PRISM awards that I have received in past years. I love designing luxury bathroom spaces as there are so many materials and fixtures available to incorporate into an aesthetically pleasing and functional space.
